Week of January 30- February 3, 2017

Welcome Falcons!
Here we are beginning a new week.  It seems like the days are flying by.  Well, we have finally finished with Esperanza Rising, and I'm glad you all enjoyed it.  You all did Amazing with the class discussions.  I must admit that I was truly impressed.  Whenever, I asked questions you all knew the answers or would immediately grab your book and begin to look for the answer.  Way to go 6th graders keep it up! By continuing with this attitude, I know you all will do great!
As promised, this week, we will be reading The Phantom Tollbooth, a play from our Literature book.  I don't even want to tell you what it's about because I love to see your expressions when you all are reading.  The fact that you all get consumed with the reading is simply awesome!  Then when you all ask me questions, or I listen to you all asking each other questions is just even better.  So... You're just going to have to wait and read in class to find out what it's all about, but I promise you all are going to really enjoy it.
When we finish reading the play, we will be analyzing poems.  I know I'm certain some of you aren't too fond of poems, but I promise after we finish, you are going to appreciate it.  Plus many of you like music and poetry is very similar to it, so  I'm sure everyone is going to do just fine.
Oh! Students please make sure you come to school everyday.  It's extremely important that you show up.  Remember that if you miss one day, you miss out on a lot, and as I have stated before, I completely understand inevitable situations, but please try your best to be present.
Students next week we will begin to read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by: J.K. Rowling.  Please make sure to start bringing in $9.00, so that I can purchase the book for you.  It's extremely important that everyone has the book.  This way you aren't struggling with assignments, homework, quizzes, tests, or projects.  It's important that everyone knows exactly what is occurring during the reading.  You can't afford to just sit and listen to the discussion.  You are only hurting yourself, so please make an effort to get the book.  Remember that you can also check the book out at your school library.
Let's continue to give it all we've got, so that all of you can be on that road to success.  I'm looking forward to another phenomenal week.
I have added a video that about rhyme scheme.  Make sure to view it and bring in a poem or even a song in which you have labeled the rhyme scheme correctly.
Thank you,
Ms. Narvaez

January 23-27, 2017

Welcome Falcons!

We are starting another week, and I'm so excited.  Please remember to remain focused and make sure to stay on task.  It's important that we keep in mind that we all need to give it all we've got to succeed and be the best that we can be.
Especially because every single one of you is extremely intelligent; therefore, there is no excuse for not doing your work, turning in missing assignments, or passing any tests.  You all have the potential to go above and beyond.  This is why I stress that you all continue to be the amazing students that you are and devote and dedicate yourselves to learning.  I promise it will help you in the long run.
This week we will continue reading Esperanza Rising, and I must admit that it is getting so... good.  I'm really glad that you all are enjoying the story because I get really excited when I ask questions and you all know the answers.  I love the fact that I can ask my students anything, and they know the answer, and if they don't know it, they dash to their book to find the answer/answers.
Please continue to keep up the Phenomenal Work! Oh! Also make sure to attend school every day.  By missing one day, you end up missing out on a lot.  As I have previously mentioned, I completely understand inevitable situations.
It is through dedication and hard work that we will all be able to obtain Level III.  Let's get it together, and give it all we've got.  That way we can rise to the top!

Please view the following video for extra credit.  On a separate sheet of paper explain what are the relations you encountered with the slides in the video and the book.

Let's make it another Phenomenal Week!
Thank you,
Ms. Narvaez

Week of January 16-20, 2017

Welcome Falcons!
This week we will continue reading Esperanza Rising by: Pam Munoz Ryan.  I'm so excited to see how much you all are consumed with the book.  The fact that I listen you all talk about it with such enthusiasm is without a doubt thrilling.  I especially love that when I ask questions, every single one of you has their hand up and is ready to provide a response.
I must admit that I'm extremely proud of you all.  As students, you all are demonstrating that you're willing to give it all you've got to succeed.  This readiness will definitely lead you to the road to success.
I need to remind you that it's really important that you read your assigned Chapters in order to be prepared for the class discussion the following day.  By reading assigned Chapters, it will also allow you to be ready for assignments that must be completed.
Students keep in mind that STAAR is right around the corner, and you all need to be prepared.  If you all do not stay focused, it can affect you.  Since our goal is to do the best that we can, we must remain dedicated, devoted and focused in order to be prepared for anything that is headed our way.
On Friday we will have another Quiz over the Chapters read.  Please make sure to read so you can do extremely well on the test.  Reading the assigned Chapters will allow you to get the results you want.
Attendance is extremely important.  Remember that if you are absent one day, you end up missing out on a lot.  This then leads you to fall behind, and we cant's afford this.  Please make sure to come every day, and as I have stated before, I completely understand inevitable situations.
Watch this short video that was made based on Esperanza Rising.  For extra credit, create a Venn Diagram that is nice, neat, and unique.  You must include: similarities and differences you encountered within the novel and the video.  I hope you enjoy it.

Thank you,
Ms. Narvaez
